AVALON SUMMER FETE
A beautifully sunny weekend attracted lots of people to the annual summer fete at Avalon Nursing Home in Bridgwater.
All the residents came out to enjoy the activities on offer, as well as family, friends and relatives.
The event was opened by local Mayor Graham Granter and his wife (pictured here with Avalon’s manager Paula Howlett, centre).
Paula said: “This was a marvellous team effort organised by our Friends of Avalon which raised £850 towards our Residents Fund.”
Other guest appearances included the Chameleon Battonettes majorettes group, who performed a selection of routines for the residents to enjoy, and entertainment and singing from Magical Memories.
Kingston’s Exotics paid a return visit, attracting a great deal of attention with the various fluffy animals and reptiles they brought for the residents to hold.
There was also a therapy room offering treatments for residents and other visitors, with therapies such as reflexology and Indian head massage.
The stalls included bric-a-brac, cake stalls, and a barbecue, as well as a ‘Kids’ Corner’ with a great range of games such as ‘Hook A Duck’ and ‘Guess the name of the Teddy.’
The prizes that were up for grabs attracted a high level of participation in the raffle and various games, and included tickets for Wookey Hole Caves, a £100 cash prize, a manicure, a ladies’ pamper hamper, a fruit basket and plenty of bubbly.
