BRIDGWATER CARNIVAL CLUBS MAKE MAJOR DONATION TO AVALON NURSING HOME

Over £1,000 has been donated by Bridgwater Carnival clubs to Bridgwater-based Avalon Nursing Home.

A total of £1,205 was raised by the clubs during this year’s annual Old Folks Shows.

The shows, organised by Bridgwater Gangs and Features, are free for the over 60s as a way of thanking local pensioners for their continued help and support in keeping the carnival spirit alive.

Tamsin Forde, manager of Avalon Nursing Home – run by dementia care specialists Camelot Care – said: “We are so honoured to have been chosen to receive this very generous donation, and grateful to those who worked so hard to raise the money.

“Many of our residents have enjoyed supporting and participating in the Bridgwater Carnival over the years, and it means a lot to them to be recognised in this way.

“The donation will be added to our residents’ fund which is used to provide additional activities and entertainments which enhance the quality of life of those we care for.”

The president for Bridgwater Gangs and Features, Arthur Leigh, said: “The 2024 performances were extra special for us as were celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Old Folks Show, and I am delighted we could raise so much money for the residents of Avalon Nursing Home”.

“Organising shows like this takes a lot of work from many people and it makes it so worthwhile when we can give something back, and I would like to thank every senior citizen who donated to the collections this year.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many businesses, organisations and individuals who donated raffle prizes for the shows. We really do appreciate and value their continued support and generosity.”
