FUNDRAISING FOR ALZHEIMERS RESEARCH

Staff at two specialist dementia care homes in Wellington, have channelled their Christmas spirit into a fundraising day in support of Alzheimer’s Society by running a festive Elf Day.

Residents at Camelot House and Lodge were delighted by the variety of activities which took place.

The day off to a rousing start at Camelot House with a Christmas karaoke, followed by a stellar performance from the Salvation Army in the afternoon.

And at Camelot Lodge residents enjoyed a beautiful rendition of carols by a student choir from Wellington School, and a great performance of Christmas songs by local entertainer Richie James. They also held a cake sale

Kitchen staff baked special Elf Day cakes, and helped by spreading the word about the charity day, which raised £50 in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.

Richard Dempslake, activities co-ordinator for Camelot House and Lodge, said: “We had a great day supporting a cause which is close to our hearts.

“The residents loved seeing the staff in their elf costumes, and everyone enjoyed all the music and delicious Christmassy food.”

Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity investing in research into dementia care, cause, cure and prevention.

Camelot House and Lodge’s fundraising will contribute to the £150 million the charity has committed to spend on cutting-edge research over the next decade. Every project they fund directly addresses the needs and concerns of people affected by dementia.

Camelot House & Lodge, run by care providers Camelot Care, is home to up to 90 residents with memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language.

The group, which also has homes in Plymouth, Bridgwater and Yeovil, were winners in the End of Life Care category in the 2017 Care Focus South West Awards.
